Heifer International

Nathan Bransford has offered to donate $1 to Heifer International for each comment left on his blog today. Heifer International is a wonderful charity that helps promote sustainable growth and alleviation of poverty. Please visit their site and check them out.

Nathan also encouraged his readers to make similar offers. Well, I'm throwing my hat into the ring. I'll donate $1 to Heifer International for each comment left on this blog entry today. Nathan has very generously offered to donate up to $1000 dollars. Someday I'll boldly match him. I'm going to cap my contribution at $150.

If you're a writer, please tell us about your book/manuscript and leave a link to your site.

All the best!

Matt

*edit* I've decided to extend this until December 30th. Keep the comments coming!

  1. Hooray!! Thanks so much for participating!

My book is called JACOB WONDERBAR AND THE COSMIC SPACE KAPOW, and it's about three kids who trade a corndog for a spaceship, blast off into space, accidentally break the universe, and have to find their way back home. It's coming out with Dial in 2011.

  3. A great idea, isn't it?

My book is about a young girl in search of an ancient power stolen from the sea, tentatively titled "The Mermaid's Daughter".

I'm participating, too, so please stop by my blog at http://kjankowski.blogspot.com. Thanks.

  4. Happy Holidays!

I'm working on my middle grade science fiction novel, hopefully to be ready to query in the New Year, and am working on Draft#2 of my YA novel.

I think it's great that you are a teacher, as well as a writer! You might be interested in my blog Ink Spells, which is all about connecting advanced readers ages 8-12 to good books. What grade do you teach?

I'm also helping Nathan out with his drive today!

  6. I'm doing this too, on my blog: http://www.amandaplavich.com

I'm writing a YA urban fantasy and I'd tell you what its about, but then I'd have to kill you. No, seriously, I just suck at synopses. :-P I also have a few others in the wings.

  7. I love Heifer and I love that you're doing this! So awesome.

And I'm working on a novel but I'm not ready to talk about it yet. But soon! 2010 is the year I tackle that thing!

  8. Hi Matt,

I'm Mags. This is a comment.

My book is 80k words of romantic absurdity about a couple who meets when the heroine duct-tapes the hero to the counter of his pawn shop during the commission of an armed robbery.

You asked! (It goes out on submission the first of the year, God bless my poor agent).

    It's nice to meet you!

  11. The link to my blog is in my name. To clarify, I'm a writer, not an author (but you asked for writers, so I gues that's okay).

My book is called "That Boy in the Shed", and it's about five things, really:

    1) A girl named Allison and a boy named Mark.

    2) Battling life and "losing" to life.

    3) A dead young woman on the swing in her backyard.

    4) Family.

    5) A friendship that makes the members of said friendship work - really work.

  13. Wow! You gave a lot of time before your deadline!
My story is YA fantasy, and deeply entrenched in the battle of self editing. I loathe it right now, but it should come out for the better... I hope.
This donation thing is such a great idea!

  15. Hi, Matt! I'm KD.

My book is paranormal steampunk YA. A seeming angel appears at St. Jude's orphanage to help a determined blind girl save her friends from an evil within the mission itself.

Thanks so much for doing this!

  16. Howdy. My book is nameless, but is a coming-of-age YA romance written in blog format. I love it. The characters are awesome. Most of my time is spent mothering my kiddos, but I am ready to dive head-first into the zombie land of late-night writing again.

Thanks for doing this! Merry Christmas!

  17. I'm in on the fun, too. You can help build up my pledge to Heifer International by commenting on my new blog - So Many Dreams at

    tkastle.blogspot.com

My novel is a YA paranormal. Of course, there is romance involved, but principally it deals with her journey toward forgiving the guy who killed her father.

    Thanks for doing this!

  26. I'm just going around to all those who are kind enough to donate money to add one more dollar or so to the cause.

I am a writer, though - I even have an agent! No website yet though. That will come in the new year.

Good Luck to all, and once again, a word of thanks for your good work.

  27. Heyya Matt. Great thing you're doing. I will try and get involved in this myself next time. : )

I am going to start querying agents for my MG novel next week. YIKES! Did I actually use the word query?

It is an adventure set in the Blue Ridge Mountains (the NC section). Two 13-year-old girls go on a horseback ride alone. One of the girls is a diabetic and didn't bring any extra insulin. Needless to say, lots of interesting and harrowing stuff happens. :0)

  31. Thanks for helping to support a great organization, Matt.
I've written a 600 word picture book about a wild mouse that recruits family pets to help get cheese off a tall, tall table. Illustrations will show trouble lurking around every corner, of course. Title: TOO TOO TALL, TOO TOO SMALL

  32. Thanks! I love Heifer. Our family donated our gift money for adults to Heifer this year in the belief we all have enough stuff. One of the kids said we should make that cow thing a tradition!
